CLTC Range Rating
China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle - the official range standard in China
CLTC (China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle) is the official testing standard used in China to measure vehicle range and fuel efficiency. It replaced the older NEDC standard in 2021.
How CLTC Works
CLTC testing simulates typical Chinese driving conditions with lower average speeds and more stop-and-go traffic compared to European WLTP testing. The test cycle includes urban, suburban, and highway driving scenarios.
CLTC vs Real-World Range
CLTC ratings tend to be optimistic compared to real-world driving. Expect actual range to be 70-85% of the CLTC rating depending on driving style, weather, and terrain. Highway driving at high speeds will result in lower range than the CLTC rating.
Comparison with Other Standards
- CLTC ratings are typically 10-15% higher than WLTP ratings
- NEDC (old standard) was even more optimistic than CLTC
- EPA (US standard) tends to be the most conservative and closest to real-world results
